Brasara Caverns

I thought these caves were uninhabited, but imagine my surprise when I hear a voice call out to me from the darkness, asking if I was lost — and what kinds of tea I enjoyed?
— Adventurer's tales from the Brasara Caverns
Brasara Caverns is a geographical landmark located in Catrao, known best for its deep red stone formations.

Nature in Red

WIth a wide open entrance, Brasara Caverns is a common attraction for travelers and cave explorers alike, as its first rooms are extremely accessible. Most visitors won't delve any farther than the cavern entrance, as paths further inside grow more winding as you progress through them, with many rooms locked behind the challenge of squeezing through some very tight spaces.   While the caverns are attractive to adventurers of all kinds, it sometimes comes as a surprise for them to learn that these caverns are not the empty and mysterious landmark they perceive them to be — they're actually a rather densely populated home of the local Catrene khirophs!
Somehow, it always catches people off guard to find out that there are denizens scattered all throughout Ayun Sovos — even in the places you don't expect!

Tea and Stones — err, Scones!

Lovers of tea are found all across Catrao, and the reclusive khirophs are no different — however, their favored tea treats vary greatly from the ones enjoyed above ground, outside of Brasara Caverns. No one is quite sure when or how the cultural exchange took place, but the khirophs of Brasara came to develop a powerful love for scones. This treat is far more common in the lands farther to the north, so it's very likely that a traveling member of a Brasara khiroph family returned one day with a recipe for these flaky treats, and the rest was simply history.

Fretful Hosts

Those who find themselves lost in the caverns, whether by accident or with intention, may find themselves being offered some of these favorite treats by local khirophs as they fret about how they'll get them back out of the cavern, where it's far safer for those who do not dwell in their caves. No matter what you tell them, they'll be quite convinced that you've ended up in their homes by accident — and that you're just playing it cool now that help has arrived.   They mean well.

Lofty Support

Unlike the regular bats who share their cavernous homes, khirophs don't typically spend most of their time hanging from cave ceilings — however, they do often string up hammocks high up to sleep among them.   These hammocks are typically crafted from dried grasses, meticulously interwoven so they form a sturdy, but accomodating, resting space. The local bats sometimes enjoy hanging from the edges of these hammocks more than the cave ceilings themselves.

Crimson Keepsakes

Many who venture to the caves do so in the hopes that they may take home a piece of the caves for themselves. This practice has rendered the cavern's entrance rather bare of small stones and pebbles.   Local merchants have struck agreements with Brasaran natives, allowing for limited harvest of stone from the inner caves for artisans to craft into keepsakes, but these are quite pricy — for all of the effort and negotiation they take to procure.

Ahh, the khirophs sound so cute. I'd love to visit for a cup of tea. :D Even if they would think I was terribly lost.
