Teraxandion Kovash

Written By: Xeiranis

"The tales of the world beyond our home make it appear so strange and frightening, beautiful and intriguing... That is what pulls me to it, and I will see all of it with my own eyes, Tok, Hroff, places forgotten, the heroes, the villains, all of it. And when I return I will have my own stories to tell."
Teraxandion Kovash

Physical Description

Kovash stands 7ft tall with a build that suits a soldier or knight, athletic with a reasonable amount of muscle. His silver scales have a slight purple sheen in the shaded recesses and the set of fins on both sides of the rear of his head fade into a similar purple towards the ends. His horns darken towards their tips as do his tail spines and claws.   He has particularly bright icy blue eyes and his face bears a wolf's claw scar on the left side in the space between the left eye and nostril. His usual expression is calm and looks relatively happy but becomes visibly stern and fierce in a fight. Kovash wears a high-quality dark wine red travelling long coat under a set of steel half-plate which covers his chest, neck and shoulders, paired with a matching set of armoured gloves.   This set of armour and his coat are lined with dark brown leathers and steel used for buttons and buckles. A cloak coloured to match his coat sits draped around his shoulders and flows down to a similar length.   He carries a steel sword and a rounded cross shield reinforced with circular metal plates.

Teraxandion Village

Kovash grew up in a secluded village at the foot of a mountain in a snowy tundra region, far from the beaten path. Lifetimes ago the clan had taken up the task of guarding a shrine at the base of a small mountain which their village grew around over generations. They slowly expanded into a much larger community, capable of trade with other nearby towns and travellers. Notably, for Dragonkin, the people of clan Teraxandion all exclusively bear scales of silver ancestry, as well as tails marking them as pure-blooded. Though hard to find, it's people are fond of outsiders and foreign wares, especially clothing and trinkets of various high-fashion.

Blue Flower

It was a misty afternoon with a slither of daylight peeking through the clouds over the Dragonborn village. A report had just been given that a pair of the clans' younglings had gone missing and no sight of them had been made within the town's walls and a fierce snowstorm looked to be closing in by the hour.   Upon hearing the names and descriptions of the pair, the Guardsman, Kovash had the realization that he had seen the two earlier that day. Playing on the road leading out of the town, they were chided by one of the other guards at the entrance and taken back to their homes. The two stuck out to him because one carried a blue flower in hand, reminding Kovash of a place nearby he and his friends were fond of at that age. A small rocky valley far off the road and through some dense foliage, the outcrops of stones and canopy of trees were great for that pretend adventurer game they used to play, out of sight of the adults and too hard to just casually walk in to without being smaller it all added up to create this somewhat mystical place, with a bit of imagination at least.   He was sure they had found it too, there was a bright blue flower that, thinking back on it now he had only ever seen growing there but he had taken it for granted. That valley was no place to be in a storm, no matter how much the trees may shield them it was going to be far from safe if they stayed there.   With that thought in mind, he joined the search, asking his childhood friend and fellow guard Quilxora to come with him and heading off towards the opening path that eventually led through the dense foliage and trees into the hidden valley, where he was sure they would find them.   It took some time to work their way through the path, it was definitely much easier to get through when they were children, but it was still manageable. He remembered the way well and both he and Quilxora were able to cut away some of the less cooperative branches and thick brush. It was getting much darker now, and Kovash had begun calling out the names of the youngling pair as the valley drew closer.   The two guardsmen stepped into the small valley, the wind was howling and trees bristled loudly in the wind but it wasn't hard to see the children huddled on a rocky outcrop some ways up, shielded by an overhang. Kovash did think it was strange for them to sit huddled up there as it must have taken some effort or frantic climbing.   He stepped forwards beckoning them to come down and the two frantically shook their heads. Not in the way of a child fearing a scolding, something felt wrong to see such genuine fear in the younglings eyes, and for the first time Kovash felt unsafe here, he looked around reaching for his sword, and on seeing this so did Quilxora. The howling wind overshadowed any perceivable sound that Quilxora could have made to warn Kovash, as from the darkened edge of the tree line a snarling creature of tooth and fang lept, clawing and snapping at him with the ferocity of a beast of prey.   Knocked from his footing and rolling around, he was trying to keep the wolf from getting at his throat, and eventually he managed to throw it off before stumbling back to his feet with the help of Quilxora as a few more of the beasts pack joined the fray. The animals leapt at them again and again, before one eventually fell to a deciding swipe from Quilxora's sword and the rest instinctively fled into the treeline again.   Catching their breath they made no time for any rest and quickly retrieved the children from the ledge to carry them away from the valley. This was a season that saw starved wolves hunting for scraps and if there was one pack there were sure to be another if they tarried.   The way back was at least previously carved out by Kovash and Quilxora's approach and was not as hard to traverse as it could have been, even in the dark with only lamp-light to guide them and the storm howling overhead, the tree cover at least kept the snow from blinding their path until they reached the road.   An arduous trek through the thick blizzard led them back to the town gates without any more incident. The excitement was over, for now, the children nary physically worse for the experience if not a little more than shaken. Kovash and Quilxora's wounds were tended to, though Kovash was going to be left with some facial scarring nothing disfiguring.   Days later while standing on duty over the town gate Kovash stared down the distant road. That wanderlust of his early life had never really left him, only dimmed with age and rekindled by the incident nights before. The sense that something more than guarding this wall for the hundredth...? thousandth? time, awaited him far out of sight of the turn at the end of that road.   With that train of thought he made up his mind, this was the last time he would stand here wondering what it would be like...

Additional Notes

Childhood

Kovash was an adventurous child, inspired by tales of heroes from across the land of Tok and those far beyond. Many he had heard from merchants and adventurers passing through who he would harry for stories until they relented. And he regularly found himself and his close friends, Quilxora and Vorrinn, in trouble with his elders as the common result of his "inspired" treks into the surrounding wilderness. His friends liked to call him Gallant as a nickname, which only seemed to embolden him more as even his betters began using the name as he grew older.

Young-Adulthood

Not much had changed as years went on, Kovash was still ever the seeker of adventure well into his teenage years. Only now he was allowed to use a real sword, hold a real shield and wear real armour while acting as an apprentice to one of the town's guards named Solenthus. Of course, the role came with plenty of responsibilities and training some of which was probably intended to reign in his adventurous tendencies. But there were still plenty of occasions where he would find himself given horribly dull tasks of labour as a consequence of his flights of fancy.

Adulthood

Eventually, he was a fully-fledged member of the clan's guard, tasked with patrolling the town and the surrounding land. His friends had found their own paths, Quilxora was eldest of the trio if only by hours and she had already been brought into the guard a year before Kovash. Vorrinn was not as inclined as the other two, instead opting to apprentice to the town's smithy.
