Rybis Flower Species in Oryth | World Anvil

Rybis Flower

Basic Information

Growth Rate & Stages

The first stage of the growth for the Rybis flower is the impact of one of the unorythly materials of Obinite and Rybinite. After a few days, the first seeds seem to set roots and after a week the first sprout

Ecology & Habitats

This rare breed of flower only sprouts up around crater impact sites when chunks of Obinite and Rybinite fall from the heavens. Usually causing residual heat from the area of impact, the Rybis Flowers favor warmer temperatures. They form a ring around the crater, creating a natural ring. As the earth eventually fills the crater, the ring of flowers is still left behind.

Additional Information

Domestication & Dietary Needs

Any attempt to domesticate the flower have been futile without the presence of one of the moonrocks. The plant seems to wither and die within a week of separation and seems to have a reliance on the material. Those that have a piece of the ore, however, can place it in the center and grow plenty of Rybis Flowers, selling them for a decent profit.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

The Rybis Flower has a distinct property that harmonizes with Obinite. When it is in the vicinity of the moonrock, the Rybis Flower glows with a faint blueish aura and begins to sprout its vines and spread around the given area. It is often used as a homing beacon to find pieces of the precious material that orbits Oryth. This effect seems to last well after the flower is picked from the ground, keeping its property for up to 15 years and able to reroot itself if given a suitable atmosphere.

Civilization & Culture

Common Customs, Traditions & Rituals

Rybis Flowers are often bought by wealthy nobles to be given on the Day of Affection to loved ones. However, this may be a bad omen since the flower cannot survive without the presence of one of the moon rocks.

History, Myths & Legends

People are unsure how the Rybis Flower first came into existence, but the Scholars of Oryth theorize that the flower was originally a mundane wildflower until Rybis was destroyed during the Divine Wars. Once the dust and Peloris radiation fell to the ground, it morphed the flower, changing its properties. It is still unclear how the flower seems to sprout wherever Obinite and Rybinite are found even in locations that had no floral life prior to the impact. Some of the scholars think that the plant might not actually be a flower at all, but a xeno-facsimile of a long-extinct species of poppy.
