Chapter II: Sweet Dreams

General Summary

The cool breeze from the coast of the Mercidos Peninsula catches your hair as you see the graveyard of Moristpor ahead of you, making your way through the beautiful sight is a refreshing view in comparison to some of the burial sights that have been seen. The graveyard is well kept with many people visiting past loved ones. Every gravestone is accompanied by a small vase with a quaint bouquet of flowers. Upon exiting the graveyard, you cross the bridge, passing over the Ester Rapids when it hits you. The smell. The smell of sweetness and chocolate throughout the city is almost intoxicating. You have arrived at Moristpor, the City of Sweet Death.

Arriving in the town of Moristpor the smell of chocolate pierces the noises of our adventurers. Much to Lidori's surprise, Atlas admits that he has never had chocolate before. The three head into the marketplace to the Choc & Chuckle shop where they meet Farris & Moddy Chuckle and their pseudodragon, Mittens. Atlas immediately took a liking to Mittens, who flew to his shoulder as he enjoyed a free sample of a Chocolate Turtle for the first time, an astonishing experience to be sure.

The three made their way to the Snikt Snakt where they meet the talented blacksmith, Daronna Dawnforge. They are able to lighten their loads and sell the used weapons and fit Lidori's armor to be better suited for her halfling figure. Heading to the Stables & Saddles where they meet Aivlia Longmantle to fit Flump with a new saddle. Able to bring the price of the exotic saddle down to a mere 10 gold, Lidori stables Flump at the saddle where she promised Aivlia free rides on her Almiraj companion.

Hungry from their travels, Lidori suggests a hardy meal so they head to the Truffle Tomb Tavern. Enjoying delicious food, Atlas seems fixated on the melody at the tavern being played by three halflings, one playing the flute, a fiddle, and a drum respectively. After eating, they notice a bulletin board with several job postings to which they tear off pieces of paper to visit later.

Heading to the Sweet Dreams Inn, they meet the rambunctious and spunky Kithie Proudgarden where they buy an inn room for 2 nights and experience the frozen treat known as the Shooken Frosty. Watching the halfling make the treat using magical cantrips, Atlas is mesmerized and asks to try to make one himself, which Kithie happily obliges. Surprisingly, Atlas is able to make a remarkable Shooken Frosty and Kithie offers him a job to help at the inn the next couple of days for a modest day's pay. Lidori and Atlas retire for the evening in the communal room, attempting a night's rest.

They share a dream of them hanging against a wall, suspended by a blackened ichor looking at others in a similar predicament. There are surrounded by large egg-like pods when one opens, a large worm-like creature with a face like a squids', but with rows of teeth. The creature lurches forward at them before latching on. There is a sharp pain before both of them wake up in a cold sweat in their respective cots. Not realizing they slept until the 13th hour, Atlas quickly readies himself and heads to work to assist Kithie with the mid-day rush. After lunch, the two reconverge and talk about their unsettling dreams and confirmed that the necessity to solve this enigma was prudent. Referring to the "Missing Persons" flyer, the two head to Jalrüt Manor where they meet with Mayor Lewis Jalrüt to inquire about the missing people.

There is an unfortunate lack of information, but Jalrüt suggests that the occurrence might be connected to the two people found catatonic and mumbling incoherently by the graveyard. Jalrüt has offered a substantial reward for any relief from this plight. Atlas and Lidori head to the Temple of Myhriss in order to speak with the two. Casting a Lesser Restoration, the two are freed from their beguiling state and inform our heroes of a large darkened shadow in the depths of a mausoleum and report seeing many glowing eyes in the distance. "Oh, the eyes..."
