The Arcane Consortium Organization in World of Arsteria | World Anvil

The Arcane Consortium

Founded by legends and designed to help every generation that would come to pass, the Arcane Consortium was responsible for helping to properly instruct the users of Ethereal Energy. The original founders descended from the cities of the Kasanage and made their way to the cities of the Empire, the city states, and even the Oasis in the desert. They made it their goal to be apart of every new and old arcanist that has, or ever will, live.

Structure

The Arcane Consortium works to assist in the teaching of new and old Arcanists, and aids in their work/research. The Eldest Arcanists make up the majority leaders of Consortium, and these then promote lower Arcanists to Control a single city. Rarely do all the Leaders of their Consortium Embassies travel to the Consortiums Headquarters atop the Central mountains peak, but they do gather regularly within their own selective choosing. Often members of the same lesser king or vassal city-states, and exchange information on current works and trends.
Newer members are sent through the regular schooling programs in the Imperial Academies and are only approached by the Consortium if they begin down the schooling path associated. These members, upon completing their schooling, are then introduced to their regional Consortium Head and given either tasks or free range. Arcanists are usually required to serve as either a soldier or Arcane Engineering assistant for a number of years before being released to their own devices and research. These years of both schooling and post-school-schooling are compensated by the Consortium on the day of their time of required service completes.
Older members of the Consortium serve roles as Pere, The Imperial Protectors of the Public, Researchers alongside Arcane Engineers, Or sole researchers on individual projects. These years and works help place the Arcanist within certain levels of respect among the Consortiums internal hierarchy. Older members are given more leverage and time on their projects, regardless of outcomes. If no record exists, the research is scrapped and the Arcanist is instructed to begin something new.
Regional/Councilor: Regional Heads of the Consortium are accomplished Arcanists and usually have served as instructors during their Elder years. Being given this position entitles the Arcanist to more internal power and contribution to goings on. These Arcanists are given the task of leading Headquarters and instructing its newer members, or sent to be the Consortium representative and Arcanist Councilor to a Lesser King. Giving them information on the workings of magic and offering guidance on subjects they are knowledgeable on.

Culture

The overall culture of the Consortium in designed to incentivize the acts of innovation and progress of the Arcane Arts. This is, however, only their internal appearance and to the outside commoner, it is well hidden and secretive. Magic is largely in the realm of "Unknown", and the Consortium is of the mind to rectify that, but to do so they only desire the brightest and best of their generations. While all Arcanists are given a rank and position among the Consortium, few begin to gain footing in the actual functions of the organization.
Anyone who lacks the ability to use magic is not meant to be taught those arts, and so the Consortium makes incredible strides to conceal everything about their internal workings. The closest that any Non-arcanist can get to being told of their systems is by working with early Arcanists in the Academies. Even these are limited in their understanding and accessibility.
