Za Hinanpangunun

During the early hours, when the light of the first sun and last star meet, you can see the leviathan cresting its home. Its luring cry frightening every creature around. It hunts at night, but it's not alone. No, there are things there that none would dare challenge. That's why we leave them alone, we dare not fight those who tread on the lands of devils.
-Nunpun Kubinansun, Leader of the Third Expansionary party into the central mountain ranges.   Za Hinanpangunun, The Mountains of Demons and Darkness, are the impassible ranges of central mountains on the main continent. The range earned its name both from the Nunpun's report to the first King, and from a letter reporting the death of several missionaries sent on a specific mission to communicate with the mountain natives. A task found to be largely unsuccessful.
Legend states that the Mountains were once a place of unknown power and wonder, holding creatures of mystery and legend alike. When the God of Creation descended, they descended FROM Za Hinanpangunun to meet the original king. Creation raised the sisters to godhood and departed back towards the mountains. The King placed much effort into clearing the way to the peak, hoping to meet the God of Creation and learn of the best course of action. He never made it, however he did make several attempts with the assistance of the other Noble Houses and Heroes. These attempts failed, and with each failure the mountains grew more treacherous. Monster would descend on peaceful camps whether night or day, terrible howling's and horrid screams filled the nights, and all who fell within the forests or mountains were consumed by the very ground they had walked on. The king, wishing not to lose anyone further, decided to let the Great Creator rest and would get his answer later. He could lead his people for now with the occasional aid of the woman who would have been his Queen, the Goddess of Life.

Geography

The peaks of the mountain range reach far past the clouds and bathe the surrounding lands in pitch darkness throughout the day. The valleys and ridges are often overwhelmed with creatures and dangers that most would hope to avoid and few could attempt to stop. It cuts through the continent and acts as a natural landmark for travelers. Several rivers have their origins in the springs and lakes that dot the occasional plateau.

Localized Phenomena

Monsters and dangers in the areas surrounding valleys, ones unoccupied by the mysterious Kasanage, are more prevalent and ferocious than the traditional creatures that people would have faced. The nights around the mountains are shrouded in a darker shade, and even light itself only casts small, strange shadows. People tend to lose their minds on journeys through the forests, and only the regularly treaded roads to the Kasanage towns and cities are safe enough to attempt travel. Though even those safety guards can, and do, fail regularly.
