Vergarian Guard

Equipment
The Guard wear plate armor with navy and forest green plumes rising from the top. They carry tower shields which they use to bash or block attacks. Many also know counterspell and other useful anti-mage spells.
Weaponry
Pikes, and short swords. The Vergarian Guard are well versed in the art of swordplay and spears. They train several hours every day to hone their craft. Shield training is just as important as well.
Structure
The leader of Yym, currently Ármin Yym, commands the Vergarian Guard to do his will. Usually they stay inside the keep but can on occasion be ordered to patrol the city.
Tactics
If possible, the Vergarian Guard bring their quarry to open guard where they have the advantage. If they cannot, they bring their shields together and over top and march. They typically spread and surround their enemies, using their reach and large shields to corral the enemy inside. If they run before "the noose" closes, they simply regroup and chase after them.
Training
Extensive training is necessary to join the ranks as a full-fledged guard. Squires train for almost a decade before they are ready to join. Even after joining the training does not cease. They continue for several hours a day, trading off training and guard duty.
Logistics
Logistical Support
Since the Vergarian Guard rarely leave the city there is no need for logistical support. That being said, there is still some support from court wizards and stables who provide them with what they need on journeys.
Recruitment
There are periods of open enrollment, though few make it through the enrollment process as it requires a strength and endurance exercise that many cannot handle.
History
Founded as the guards for the feeble queen Verga Tawry in the second century 4E, these guards protected their queen chivalrously. They pledged allegiance to the throne and the heart and spirit of Yym. The Guard stopped the attempted assassination of their queen several times from the dastardly Nilesian Court. They continued to serve with the name of their queen to remember their origins and pride of success.
Historical loyalties
The Vergarian Guard are loyal to the crown of Yym, and its current ruler. They do not affirm any dead or exiled leader no matter the love and affection while in office.
