Mt. Sang

A lofty peak. A spiritual hotspot. A possible route to the Upper Planes.

Found at the northwestern corner of the Broken Heartlands, Mt. Sang is the tallest mountain in the Riven Lands. It stretches into the sky, becoming increasingly steep and unclimbable the closer to the peak one travels.

Mt. Sang is believed to be a way to reach the heavens directly. People train for years on the slopes in monastaries or in quiet isolation, hoping to climb higher with each passing year. Those who have reached the peak of physical condition attempt to ascend past the cloud layer, a monumental task that requires exceptional will and inner peace. Those who disappear into the clouds rarely return.

Localized Phenomena

Mt. Sang's peak is alwars obscured by clouds. These clouds rarely cause rain and completely encompass the top of the mountain regardless of the viewer's location or distance. They remain even when strong winds assail the vicinity.

Natural Resources

No mining or digging is performed in the vicinity of Mt. Sang due to its status as a place of spiritual and physical tempering. One of the only resources regularly brought down from the slopes is the snow found at higher altitudes, believed to have holy properties.

A few forms of plant life exist on the slopes, including soft crocus - faintly glowing flowers.

History

Mt. Sang was one of the few natural landmarks unchanged by the great calamity that shaped the Riven Lands. In the days of Great Sond, Mt. Sang was found on the western coast. As a result of its relative imperviousness, it was a place with many survivors and has some of the only surviving architecture from the previous era.

While the giants and giantkin control much of the Broken Heartlands, they leave the mountain alone, save for beings who wish to test themselves against its crags.
