Traffic Section
Mitgu Vumpami is the section of the Executive Division which watches over the traffic on Ranul.
Structure
The section is lead by the so-called ipiz vumpami who answers directly to the district's Executive Securer Chief.
The ipiz vumpami oversees a number of precinct leaders (ipizakmi) who in turn command a number of patrol teams (bevundi).
Said patrol teams consist of four fully-trained Securers (gotu). There are three teams for every precinct. At any given time, one bevundi is actively patrolling the area while a second one is on standby and the remaining gotu are resting.
Furthermore, the ipiz vumpami is in charge of the traffic instructor (pigruta vumpami) who prepares the district's Securers-in-training (nuruta) for active service as gotu vumpami.
Culture
As in every section of the Executive Division, members of the same bevundi tend to form close friendships based on trust and mutual respect, especially if they have served together for a long time. Besides that, gotu vumpami also share a special bond with the artificial intelligence of their interceptor aircraft which is often ceremoniously adopted into their family.
Their primary objective is to prevent accidents or, if that is not possible, minimize their consequences. The safety of law-abiding citizens is prioritized over that of irresponsible pilots, but nevertheless every gotu has sworn to try and protect both sides to the best of their abilities.
Public Agenda
Mitgu Vumpani is tasked with protecting traveling people from traffic hazards. Their job is to enforce safety-related laws such as speed limits, distance rules or proper vehicle maintenance. They also take care of vehicles that get out of control without the pilot's fault, for example due to software malfunction.
Assets
The aircraft used by Mitgu Vumpami are optimized for speed and maneuverability. Every gotu has their own interceptor or kipruta with an on-board artificial intelligence that is tailored to their personal requirements.
These kipruta are equipped with different technologies for extracting dangerous vehicles from the regular flow of traffic. Among those technologies are:
- software agents which take over another craft's steering
- ray guns that disable another craft's systems with localized electromagnetic pulses
- grappling hooks based on electromagnetism or various chemical adhesives
