Madame Shyla's Apothecary
With Montheus Old Town being a place of constant disease and poverty it is not surprising that Madame Shyla's Apothecary is a frequently visited shop.
The healer, an Iphite immigrant born in The Imperial Cities of Iphis Shyla came over as a servant healer to a rich merchant whom was murdered during his visits. Stranded, she began trading her homemade medicines. Before long, her name was known throughout Old Town.
After some time, she was able to afford to set up shop and though she charges for her services, she has been known to take pity on the truly desperate.
Architecture
Madame Shyla's is easily identifiable by the hanging purple taphestry outside her door, shaded by a large Rosewood tree imported over from her homeland.
History
Shyla came to Montheus in 1070. As only a young woman, she had been trained in the arts of healing by her mother, and her mother before that. Her mother, the hired healer for an Imperial trader, brought her to Montheus with her employer to trade his wears. Whilst there, the Imperial merchant along with his guards and employees were all murdered, their ship they sailed over in was burnt by what was suspected as a rival trader of Oshya. Shyla, only 19 at the time, had managed to escape with one of the guards but the others including her mother perished.
This left Shyla and the guard homeless and desolate. At first, she kept close to the guard. He managed to get a job as a guard at the docks and got them a small room in a shared building. However, Shyla's existence soon became a financial strain on the guard and he quickly kicked her to the curb. Soon after she found lodging at a local brothel, using her training in healing in tending to the workers and helping the saftley get rid of any unwanted spawn before they developed. Over the years, words of Shyla's skills spread across Old Town, with people coming from all corners of the city seeking healing from Shyla. Soon she was brining in as much money as the brothel and the proprietor began to demand a percentage of the amount to pay for his troubles. Shyla despised the brothel owner and would eventually become wealthy enough to buy the brothel from the owner and took with it the workers, deciding to train them in healing arts where possible. Eventually the brothel was completely transformed into an apothecary and her workers, now known as "Shyla's Girls".
