The Purge of Morals
"It is a duty of the Honourable Prince of Red Crest to be in charge of keeping the decency and morals of Red Crest's people and providing cultural values to them"
Virgilim by Naelin
The true independence
On the faithful 12th of Celebrating of 3014 E.Alz, the High Rust claimed the life of Virgilim's mother, the queen Tesel of Merthiorn. During that times, the Rust also claimed most of their family and the capital city of Merthiorn, concluding with the fall of the kingdom.Alongside this, a big portion of Virgilim's military, noble families and high functionaries also perished, while he was miraculously not affected.
The Unrest
As soon as Merthiorn fell, Virgilim's actual inexperience for governing was shown in spectacular fashion.Without the power of his mother's empire to back him up, devoid of his counsellors and chancellors, his voice lost its authority and his rules became uncertain. The people started to push back against the heavy taxation and, soon enough, against his command.
The Purge of Morals
One of the few groups in Red Crest that stayed dangerously subversive to Virgilim's morality rules were the The Circlecrats, a group of philosophers that were heavily critical of the "decency" and "morality" rules from the starts. They took the opportunity as soon as they saw it, and released the Manifesto for the burning of morals on the 1st of Burning, 3 E.Ru. calling for all the population to fight back against Virgilim's mandate. The Manifesto was immediately prohibited and the Circlecrats prosecuted for trying to alter the public order, but it was too late and Virgilim's forces too weak. The pamphlet was well received by the population, though some months passed until people started being confident about saying so in public. Virgilim is not being able to fight back against the "degeneration" of his carefully chiselled moral rules and had to compromise some, though he is still rejecting the claims against his taxation rules.
The resistance is still brewing up at a steady pace, though the general public in their everyday life are still skittish and try to be prude, at least in public.
Well that was a very interesting take on a conflict - great work Naelin
