The Shadow Hunters

The Shadow Hunters of are a small and specialized police force in Baystead tasked with finding, arresting, or eliminating Tieflings in the Barony, but particularly in Baystead.   The Shadow Hunters are a small group of experienced adventurers that have been given a warrant from Baron Gyles Lindon and his spymaster to do their work. They take their name from their prey, a group of Tiefling in the Barony that call themselves the Shadow of Horns.   The Shadow Hunters uses informants, and their own undercover operations to find Tieflings hiding in the city. It then tries to capture the Tieflings in a raid conducted at night the Tiefling hideout so as to not disturb or panic the population of the city with evidence of Tieflings living amongst them. The group is very good at moving stealthily and has several spell-casters to help with disguise, surveillance, and capture.   Once captured, the prisoner is transported to a special wing of the Baron's dungeon. This wing of the dungeon is on the water-side of the castle grounds, and is designed to flood during high-tides. On their first day in the dungeon, the prisoners are chained so that only their feet get wet, and as each day passes, they are moved further down the stepped floor so that they become more and more submerged each day by about one foot. By the fifth day, shorter prisoners might be subjected to drowning, and by the seventh day, the step is 8 feet below the high tide line making it an almost certain death. To encourage those that do not seem afraid of the water, often the jailers will throw scraps of food into the water around the prisoners which encourages crabs and other scavengers to enter the flooded cell and look for things to eat. Usually this results in a few pinches from the crabs, but on occasion other creatures, such as eels, enter the cells and are more aggressive as they look for food.   The Shadow Hunters are only interested in one thing from the prisoners: information on other Tieflings that can be rounded up. If they cooperate, and the information turns out to be useful, then the prisoner is usually transported out of the Barony, sometimes to be sold into slavery in a distant land, or if they were particularly helpful, they will be set free in a remote area outside of the Empire. If they fail to cooperate, they are usually sold into slavery, or killed and their bodies quietly disposed of.

We will find them.
