The Arcadium of Argate
The Arcadium houses the school of magic run by Lyrion Myrliial.
Purpose / Function
The Arcadium building houses the teachers, students, classrooms and research labs for the Argate Arcadium.
Architecture
The Arcadium is constructed out of stone, and has 5 towers and a sizeable courtyard surrounded by a 15' tall curtain wall. The curtain wall has a walk along the top of it, but it is not designed, or intended, to be defensible, although it provides plenty of privacy for the Arcadium.
History
The Arcadium started out as a home for the Corulaus family. Kyracir Corulaus moved his family to Argate, 300 years ago during the rush of new settlers after the silver resources were discovered in the area. Kyracir was once of the founding members of the Guild of Silversmiths in Argate. He used his new found wealth, to build a magnificent home in what is now called the Palace Ward, but was the original settlement of Argate. The original home consisted of a small stone, two-story building, but over the life of Kyracir, he expanded the house. The first expansion included a new wing for his family, and the old wing became the kitchen and servants quarters. Later he added, another wing to accommodate his grown sons' families. His daughter stayed in the first wing with her parents, as she never married. When Kyracir passed away, his widow and her children added a large wing to house a shrine to the Risen, and to provide a tomb fot Kyracir. After hos mother died, Carurr Corulaus expanded the shrine to add another tomb for his mother, and to honor her memory he also added the first of five towers. This first tower he used for his family, but added an observatory on the roof as well. The other towers were started but were not finished by the time Carurr passed into the Light. His son, Shadsol, finished the towers, and added walls to surround the property. There was some controversy around this wall as in order to enclose the land a few other buildings needed to be removed. Shadsul was able to purchase the buildings from most of his neighbors, but several did not want to sell. Later that year, one of the neighbors died in a mine accident, and another died when his house caught on fire. Shadsul was then able to complete his expansion of the walls to enclose the family home.
Several years later Shadsul's daughter, Yshiva, married Baron Silvertouch's only child, and became Baroness when her father-in-law, and husband, died during a tournament to celebrate her son's name day. Shadsul and much of his family moved into the Silver Palace and took over the running of the government. After Shadsul's death due to old age, Yshiva ruled the city until her son came of age, and one of the decisions she made was to sell the family home to Lyrion Myrliial, which she then converted into the Arcadium.
