Shrilari

Murgothi in ancestry, the Shrilari people of the Sirocco River would take great offense should you refer to them as such. They were always viewed as odd by the rest of the people of the desert. After all, who in their right mind would want to live in the howling winds and biting sands of the eternal dust storm? It wasn't until a few years after the founding of the Murgothi Confederacy that relations with the Shrilari began to break down. In 201 OA the Shrilari began raiding trade caravans and riverboats, a practice that continues to this day. It is unknown why this began and efforts to make peace have all failed. In 219 OA, the Shrilari were declared Enemies of the Confederacy which allowed the local militia to take up arms against them without provocation. Over a century later, violent encounters occur on a regular basis where the Sirocco River flows into the Gods' Gift.

Culture

Major language groups and dialects

Being a recent offshoot of the Murgothi people, they have yet to develop their own language and continue to speak Murgothi, albeit using many phrases and words that have fallen out of the common speech of the Confederacy.

Coming of Age Rites

Boys and girls are trained from a young age to do two things – tending a garden along the riverbanks and piloting a riverboat in order to raid. A child becomes an adult after the successfully raise a new garden to its first bloom and steer a boat in a raid against Murgothi traders.

Common Myths and Legends

The Shrilari believe that the Murgoth Desert was once a lush and fertile forest. One could climb the tallest tree and still another, taller still, on the horizon. The Old Gods, angered that the people had started cutting down trees and building large cities – a blight on the beauty the gods had given to them, threw down from the heavens a great ball of fire and destroyed the forest. The people themselves were forever doomed to live in a barren wasteland for the rest of their lives. Those who continued to turn their back on the beauty of creation would have their souls cast into a blazing inferno in death.
