Channel of Jewels
In between the country of Maphni and the island nation of Kylaia lays what is disputed to be the most fertile channel in the world. Gaining its name from the exquisite coral reef it is nurtured by both east bound currents and rich volcanic rivers The Channel of Jewels sustains a stunning coral reef with some fans growing up to 8" feet wide and 6" feet tall. despite its beauty it is also dangerous, powerful currents ripping around the sheltered groves of coral to carry off the careless diver.
Geography
The clear green waters of this channel showcase the stunning coral reefs. Clustered together in groves they resemble crowded buildings in a massive city a similarity only aided by the stretches of clear open water filled with fast moving current for streets.
in some places this current forms whirlpools that wax and wane with the tides, at night when eddies form they bring up cool deep sea water full of bio-luminescent plankton making it a famous vacation spot for the wealthy both foreign and local. Underneath the main coral in the wider end of the channel to the west are twisting underwater cave systems in which those who enter rarely return.
Fauna & Flora
Fauna
Chief of all the creatures in the channel is the Dreadful Lurkworm , a top hunter that ambushes unsuspecting prey from its rocky purchase in the current. Another fascinating animal is the Giant Siltcrawler, a reclusive arthropod covered in heavy plates of armor that live in the darkness of the sub-nautical caves waiting to pounce on helpless cephalopods and fish. A variety of sharks also frequent the reef including Bull Sharks, Thresher Sharks, and Tiger Sharks. Smaller less impressive Moray eels can prove themselves a pain in the backside and may take a finger or two as a souvenir if you aren't careful. Encountering an Electric Ray may prove a shocking moment. In the reef you may also find other small creatures less interesting and too easy to stab to death for your players liking such as Octopus, Cuttlefish, Squid, various small and colorful fish, puffer fish (if they touch it its their fault), coral and crabs and clams.
Flora
Most of the true flora of the channel is patches of sea grass and algae which some fish feed off of.
