Atharian Birthday

...and when the first child of Taria was 10 years old, they presented their mother a gift of a sunflower chain as a token of gratitude of gifting them life.
— An extract from the The Embers
Many Atharians celebrate their birthday once every ten years. On this day, there are cultures who give gifts the one whose birthday it is; however, in old Elven tradition this happens the other way around. The one whose birthday it is, also known as the birthday person, is the one who gives gifts to others; family, friends or even strangers.

The Origin

This tradition dates way back to when Atharia the sentient species of this plane were divided into their own tribes. Many Elven societies adopted this tradition, because of an old Elven tale which has soon been adopted into Taria's Order religous texts, known as the The Embers.

The Story

The Elven tale dates back to when Taria was living amongst her childred of Atharia. It describes how grateful the children of Taria; the Goddess of Creation were for being granted the gift of life. The story follows a person named, Elera; who was tasked by their tribe's leaders to find the perfect gift to give to Taria. After months of adventuring on trying to find the perfect gift, Elera stubbles across an endless field of Sunflowers. Elera then picked a few to make a chain of Sunflowers which could be worn as a necklace. Whilst Elera was there, Taria appeared and asked Elera why she was in her secret garden. This was when Elera presented the gift on behalf the first tribe.

Aww, I like this tradition. The idea of giving gifts to others on your birthday is such a sweet one.
