DEPART Records: Frale Dust Expedition

A collection of diary entries from a surviving Frale a tragic Dust Expedition. It resulted in the Frale being banned from entering the Dust for centuries to come.   A group of fifteen Humane and five Frale entered the Dust on (date). Five days after the two day trip, a single Frale returns. She's suffering from what could only be described as Fogworn, which the Frale have never been susceptible to.   Within hours, she seemingly disappeared and was never to be seen again. In her place was a worn journal, half the pages roughly torn out. It was shown to the families of the survivors of the expedition, but withheld from the public, and after a few days was sealed from the families as well.
"She won't even let me read the papers... I'll never know what she went through, if she still might be alive... or if she died out there..."
-relative of one of the lost Humane
It's only been a few hours of traversing over the uneven terrain of it before we hit an roadblock. The duststone has fallen off from the last time it was mapped, and we'd have to build a ladder to reach it, but we won't make it before the light ends. We have to travel back to the Towerway, and people are not happy. We wasted all that time afterall.   The Dust makes the journey seem further than it is. Probably.   I hear complaints from the Human, namely the Highform self-proclaimed leader. I stay behind with the Frale, they remain quiet instead of whining, and I'm here to record anyhow, I don't need the textbooks to have this excessive complaining. I'll save my ink.   We were an hour away from the Tower, its light in sight when we heard the shrill scream of one of the Agentform fall, clutching their leg. I tried to yell at the others to move, but as we all realized, the stone underneath use was rumbling.   deadstone.   A second later the scream waned out, replaced by the ground rumbling. It was growing. The agentform, she was the climber, lay limp in the stone, grown five feet in the air, and growing. The stone beneath us was becoming more unstable, I was stumbling to keep my footing.   The others turn to me, and I try to take steady myself, spying a particularly light spot that could be safe if no ancestors were coming from us.   I couldn't tell if the ground was shaking from the incoming monsters or the stone sucking the blood from the climber; it didn't matter. Everything was wrong.   I signal to a cave opening off to the left, hoping to hide from the ancestors travelling on the surface. and the group start to run towards it. The climber was silent and pale fifteen feet in the air now. Her name was Bilbern.

The writing is smeared on the old and crumbled page, barely legible. The Ancient's Bone Pen that was issued for the expedition was presumably running out, and her writing was scattered and not in the format that DEPART train their recorder and mappers.

I'm not the last one, I know I'm not We ran into the caves, we all did, I was the mapper so why wouldn't they listen to me   A group of Dricken came just as the shadow of the cave covered us, we lost three of the four soldiers I don't even know their names   I screamed and fell into the frale man next to me, and a dricken turn its head and looks at us i pushed him forward as I felt the warm blood on my shoulder, and fell back on the stone i hit my head   it didn't even see him again he ignored me it wanted me   it wanted me, it didn't care I was crying and screaming not worried about the monsters anymore and then it screamed, the man he   the frale man dug the crystal around his neck into the monsters eye and it roared and threw him against the rock, i saw it grow there was deadstone everywhere i have to get out   I have to get out   i ran so far into the cave, but i somehow found myself at another opening, further from the towerway.   I left I left all those frale and the last humans there, the dust was quiet again, am i the last one I have to start to start walking to the tower but my head hurts   I have to hurry   I'm running out of light

Found on the remains of mapper ■■■■■■■ ■■■■■■■■■■■■ in a dust expedition at the cave of a mouth, dated thirteen years after her last entry.

Great job of simulating the faded writing! Really clever use of code.
