Sky Pirates Profession in Curse You | World Anvil

Sky Pirates

Where there's shinies, there's trouble.

Flying has been always a symbol of universal freedom - to be able to take off as a bird and let the wind carry you wherever was a dream of many people over many centuries. So when mankind finally figured a way to conquer the skies and say goodbye to the earth, it was only a matter of time before someone else decided to take the freedom matters into their hands. Most importantly the freedom of moving shinies wherever you want to move them. (Into your pockets, mostly.)   Pirates have always been a menace all over the world, but lucky landlocked Bohemia had never really had to bother with them. Until a ship named Dragon Eagle started cruising its skies. Its crew started the notorious Pirate Era of golden treasures being... relocated, while terrorising the Empire below. The most famous captain who eventually led an entire fleet of highly capable sky buccaneers was the (in)famous captain Terezia the Terrible, whose battle cries could be heard in the entire country below and would scare even the bravest of men. Her airship was a menace, much like her trusty cat sidekick named Furball (because it was all black and much like a real cannon ball, it would launch at the enemies of its mistress in full speed with all the claws unleashed). Her comrades in arms were Eliza the Escapist, Maria the Merciless and Rosetta the Rebellious. Together they formed the most powerful and fearless gang of sky pirates known thorough the entire continent.   And while the "profession" of pirates and sky pirates in general is deemed highly illegal all over Bohemia, it cannot be said that people hate Terezia and her high sky shennanigans. When the Great War started, many of her ships and mates were helping with food drops and defending civilian settlements from attacks of the enemy forces. Which also meant that she was able to safely retire in the mountains when the pirate life got too tiresome for her, without any legal action being taken against her. A clause in the legal system was created in her honour, where you can repent for your thieving deeds by returning it into the community somehow, especially by helping the poorest of poor.   And whoever is brave enough can go to the mountains to hang out with the legend herself. Bring cat treats, though, for your own safety.
