Ten-Thousand Deaths

Ah, you going to the Ten-Thousand Deaths? Well, hand over you're valuables then, no sense in them going to waste eh? Me? Rob you? Never! Just trying to stop goods from going to waste is all! Honest! You never heard? The place got it's name for a reason! There are trees there that drop exploding fruit that will shoot razor sharp seeds through platemail from 50 feet away! Some plants will look pretty sure enough, until you get close and by then you're already dead for inhaling it's toxic pollen that makes blood boil! Some plants don't even wait for you to get near before they shoot darts at you filled to the brim with poison! Some plants don't even wait in one spot but move around looking for folk like you! That's not even mentioning the bugs! Met a man that walked in for five minutes and then walked out with his lips sown shut so tight that only powerful magic made him able to speak again! Said it happened in a flash after he told his mate he been through there before! I'm not just talking the little bitty bugs! There some so large they can push over a ship! Honest! Saw a giant beetle get nudged by a canoe once and it burnt is to ash in one breath! Saw one man look at a tiny little thing and was turned to stone before me eyes! There be dragons in there too you know! Not the playful and nice kind either! Snakes the size of river boats, spiders the size of dogs and bears, ticks that run down and eat people, bugs that burrow into your skin to spawn more of their kind INSIDE you, moss and mushrooms that want to kill you, slime and ooze that want to devour your body, even the butterflies will kill you there! There's hydras and trees that kill the disrespectful or the stupid! The entire country is nightmares and death incarnate!   You and anyone else who goes there is without sanity! Don't even get me started on the NATIVES! You think the wildlife and plant life is bad? Try dealing with them! Some of them see us as food waiting to happen! They just want us to stop talking! Not me, no sir. With my own eyes I've seen 10 groups of adventurers enter in but NONE leave. You go on and join them if you want but not I!

Geography

The Ten-Thousand Deaths is a combination of Tropical Jungles, Swamps and Coastal Tide Pools. While there are some mountains, they are not the primary feature. Thankfully, due to the regular rainfall, fresh water lakes, rivers and ponds can be found all over. Beautiful colors of all kinds can be found on all life here, plants, animals and insects as well. Yet, as is the ways of nature everywhere else, bright colors are always a warning to all.

Localized Phenomena

Typhoons can be found here during the late fall and early winter months. This is simply referred to by the locals as "Rainy Season". The rest of the year they call "Hot Season" as despite the lack of rain, the country is constantly humid.

Natural Resources

Due to the nature of the land, not many explore it. Yet even so, there have been few successes in the past who brought back seeds and samples of the plants and animals who call the land of death, home. The findings have spurred a whole new wave of adventurers to go there. for the animals and plants there have been found to have extremely rare and potent healing properties, poisons of incredible effectiveness, as well as significant ruins suggesting ancient magical civilizations long lost to time.

History

There have been attempts by pirate lords or warbands and the like who always attempt to lay claim to the Ten-Thousand Deaths. Be it for greed, a place to hide, a place to rule or to "expand their lands" all have ended the same way: death. Not to the Natives, no, you see, the people of the Ten-Thousand Deaths have learned to live in harmony with the land yet every invader has tried to rule the land. Death does not like it when mortals attempt to control it. Every invasion of this land has failed in the most significant and spectacular of ways.   Despite this, some expeditions, have succeeded to this place. Brave, foolhardy and perhaps incredibly lucky or perhaps favored by the gods. A few have wandered in and left with tales telling of ancient ruins with incredible wards to keep out the wildlife yet not made by any known species in existence today. Some members of the Lazurite Academy have theorized it to be remnants of the lost civilization of the Netherese Empire. Even so, the clergy of Protos Naos caution some that it may be a holy site to the gods and those who enter will bring forth their wrath. Still, how much truth is there to this? Well, tales are told by locals of beings of metal entering and leaving the ancient site with great treasures. Many who would scoff at this would be simply reminded that this exact tale has been told by several tribes of different peoples and all say the same. In addition to this, all claim this happened one year ago. Yet why then, is there no mention of what was found? No map to this fabled ancient city ruin? Why have others "seen" this mysterious place yet none save the metal men, entered and leave? If only there were brave folk willing to risk their lives and venture into the playground of the goddess of death and find out for certain. Oh well, not anyone would be so foolish eh? Probably just rumors anyway.
