You and up to twelve willing creatures within range are transported safely to a specific destination on the Elemental Plane attuned to the material component used to cast the spell. For instance, you could choose to be transported to the City of Brass on the Elemental Plane of Fire, or the Citadel of Ice and Steel on the Elemental Plane of Air.
If you have strong prior knowledge of your destination you will appear as near to it as can safely accommodate you and your traveling companions. If you have only a vague knowledge of your destination (perhaps even just a name or a region), you appear somewhere near that destination but where specifically is left to the DM’s discretion. For example, if you were trying to reach the City of Brass and know only that such a place exists, you might arrive in its Street of Steel, before its Gate of Ashes, or looking at the city from across the Sea of Fire.
Alternatively, you can use this spell to instantly banish an unwilling elemental creature to their native plane if you have a material component attuned to that plane. To do so, choose an elemental creature within range and make a ranged spell attack against it. On a hit, the creature must make a Charisma saving throw. Summoned elemental spirits that fail their saving throw are dispelled, all other targeted elementals that fail their saving throw are transported to a random location on their native plane. However, a creature so transported might find its own way back to your current location, if they have the means.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 8th level or higher, the range increases by 30 feet for each slot level above 7th. Additionally, for each slot level above 7th you may either transport two additional willing creatures or banish one additional unwilling creature within range, depending upon which of the spell's two variations you are using.
