The Xashan Letters

The Xashan Letters are a group of letters sent between Fleurian High Queen Khala Rohaksa and the former Xashan League Master-At-Arms Sjor Koniso in the year 7E 579. The letters discuss an intimate relationship between Queen Rohaksa and Sjor, both of whom were married at the time of their affair. Originally sent in secret, the Fleurian High King Tarik Mishail was made aware of the letters by one of Queen Rohaksa's aides. He had the aide collect as many other letters as possible, and ordered the letters be published in The Capital Chronicle. The release of the letters destroyed Queen Rohaksa's image, and led to the removal of Sjor from his position.

The Affair

On the 19th of Dectres, 7E 759, following a meeting of the United Coalition of Allied Nations, Queen Rohaksa and Sjor had a chance encounter at a tavern in New Haven. According to an account later provided by Sjor, he "shared a few drinks with Madame Rohaksa, before she escorted [him] to her room". The two shared a few nights together, in which the pair "lovingly explored each other" for hours. In their letters, both him and Queen Rohaksa made several references to these events in graphic detail.

The Letters

Between the 27th of Dectres and the 13th of Janus the following year, Queen Rohaksa and Sjor exchanged a number of letters in secret through the use of private couriers. The pair discussed plans to leave their families and travel together, disappearing to the other side of the globe where they could be with each other. They also exchanged intimate descriptions of their desires, with enough graphic detail to label any account that includes the letters verbatim as "erotic literature". Towards the end of their correspondence, the pair even discussed Queen Rohaksa publicly divorcing her husband, King Mishail.

The Controversy

On the 21st of Janus, 7E 760, the Xashan Letters were published in The Captial Chronicle, Fleury's largest newspaper. The public was enraptured by the scandal, and as word reached news outlets in the Xashan League, the public's interest only grew. The Xashan League publicly dismissed Sjor, citing "improper behavior when acting in official capacity". Sjor's wife also left him, a decision he admits "was the best decision she made, after how I had treated her".
Author's Note
In keeping with the precedent set by The Capital Chronicle and maintained by all news outlets following the discovery, the name of Sjor's wife is intentionally omitted from this account.
In Fleury, many began to call for King Mishail to publicly punish Queen Rohaksa for her infidelity. As the first tabaxi Queen, a number of extremist groups claimed that this was "a symptom of her species's [sic]" corruption of "pleasint [sic] and proper society", and advocated for her and her family to be publicly executed. These extremist groups would point to her infidelity when challenged, claiming that "any who support the hore [sic] or her kind support the death of our traditionals [sic] and our values".
Author's Note
The above quotes are included as they appeared within editorials published in The Purity Report, a newspaper run by human racial supremacists. The authors and publishers of The Complete History of Yrnath condemn these views and their supporters, but recognize that omitting them from discussions removes the tangible impacts they have for those who lived during these times.
