Nevitheon Character in Xeovis | World Anvil

Nevitheon (Neh-vith-E-own)

(a.k.a. The Father of Storms)

Nevitheon is the god of storms, also known as the Father of Storms.   The last month of the year, Nevitha, is named for him to appease him and make the storms less brutal. At 64-days long, the storms that come can be devastating if he decides to bring them down. Most cities are built to withstand these storms, using stone to break the winds and protect the city. However, sometimes these city walls do not stand up to the pressure and crumble, which can be even more devastating to a city.   Nevitheon is a kind god for most of the year, but he knows that the storms are necessary to bring growth to the world, clearing areas with fire caused by lightning and breaking down trees that could not withstand the wind. Many misunderstand this as anger, but for the final days of the year, he cleanses the world, bringing rain and flooding, blizzards, tornadoes and hurricanes. Sometimes the level of destruction is incredibly high, but nature thrives. Wiping the slate clean, moving good sediment to a new area, spreading seeds to new areas, flooding an area to create lakes, rivers, and underground cisterns to sustain life. He will gladly take the curses that he receives from the masses during this time of the year to ensure that the natural world in Xeovis thrives.
Come Father, blow your winds fair so
our sails will fill and swell,
For we now look to Nevitheon
to keep us from His stormy spell.

Toss up your voices, troubadours,
For calm weather, keep the storm
Our voices strong and loud to hear!
Fill our sails with wind don'rear.
We beg he grant us favor, in his realm without a wall,
And provide clear sky and calm waters, calm waters for us all.

Oh Nevetheon, god of the sea, grant to us fair passage once again,
Fair seas & gentle breeze 'til we reach our journey's end.
The seascapes of adventure we are ready to explore,
Grant us sweet smooth sailing 'til we reach our final port.

"Fair Passage",
a song often heard dockside before ships set sail.
