Warrens in the Deserts and Cities

When the next group of Astralar arrived - the Murodar decided their children would Awaken in a region mostly left alone by the Folk - and most other creatures - already in the world. Thus, the Chittiki awakened on the edge of the great basin desert.

Before doing so, however, the Murodar tested their skills at manipulating the Six Energies by creating lesser creatures. In the scrub and woodland fringes near the Great Basin desert, they first brought tiny field mice into being. Testing themselves further, the first Desert Rats in the rocky and nearly barren edges of the desert itself. Satisfied with these experiements, they went on to Awaken the Chittiki People.

The Chittiki are a prolific race, and the lesser creatures that the Murodar created before them are no less prolific. It was not long before the first mice and desert rats had expanded outward and reached the Human and Felisean settlements near the inland sea. The mice found that the gardens of the forests and the homes of the Folk were more comfortable places to live than the scrublands they were born to. The rats discovered they could burrow beneath the buildings of the Folk as easily as they could burrow beneath desert rocks - and settlements had bounteous trashpits in which to forage for food.

From the first settlements where the lesser creations of the Murodar established homes, the commerce of the Folk soon took them to even more far-off settlements. Today, they are everywhere the Folk have ever roamed on Cartyrion. Rats and mice are ubiquitous within every settlement. In some, they are tolerated; in most they are considered a nuisance; but in Chittiki households and settlements, they are welcomed.
