Laland River

This small river snakes across the northwestern region of the Isle of Ionus. It is narrow, usually not more than 30-50 feet wide, and ranges in depth from a few feet to a couple of dozen. Countless streams feed the river. Soft barked cottonwood trees grow thick along the river’s banks, making sanctuaries for countless birds. A few white-barked sycamores grow in their midst, given the narrow belt of river-tied trees some dash of silvery color. Reeds and river grass give a home to a wide variety of frogs, turtles, and fish such as carp and smallmouth bass.
Several small villages dot the river’s banks, peasants beholden to the Magistrate of Vilshofen. They till the land with grapevines for wine, dry beans, melons, and squash amongst other crops. The peasants run small herds of sheep as well.
The river land is relatively peaceful, and little patrolled by the town that lays claim to it. For this reason, it is not unheard of that bandits and shipless pirates take up residence in the area.
