Atonians

The people of Aton, a coastal region in the northwestern parts of Frampia, are known as great scholars throughout the entire Frampian Empire. They claim to have the largest collection of knowledge in the entire region, situated in the large library in Aton City. While they are known for storing knowledge, and for writing many of their texts, they are just as famous for travelling far and wide in an attempt to gather the same knowledge.   The scholars of Aton come from one of two backgrounds: they are the youngest children of noble families who already have enough heirs to secure the family future, or they are the abandoned/orphaned children who are donated to the scholars. The latter category is raised from young to be part of the scholarly society, while the children of nobles often join the cause at a much older age. This gives rise to an odd contrast with regular society: among the scholars it is common for those with noble origins to work under scholars with more common blood.   The scholars of Aton often travel in small groups, especially if they are leaving the Frampian Empire. In Frampia they are generally considered honored guests and offered hospitality wherever they go, but in other nations they are rarely received as openly, though they often trade in knowledge and are able to buy hospitality among many noble and royal families with their reputation alone.   The most recognizable feature of a group of scholars from Aton is the Gruer Orb that accompanies them. These Orbs follow any serious group of scholars, and are used by the scholars to report their findings. There are always attempts at stealing the orbs, but their magical origins and protections make it impossible to, and the scholars do not have to endanger themselves to protect their artifacts.
