The Birchfield Institute has assigned Proctor Maeryll De La Vez and her new partner, Avipash, to deal with a break-in at the estate of a wealthy donor. Their investigation reveals the true nature of the burglary: a collection of dangerous magical artifacts has been stolen for some unknown purpose. Maeryll and Avi must recover these objects before they unleash mayhem upon the city of Ashport. But then the fires start…

So good! Well voiced and acted, intriguing and unique characters, with atmospheric music and sound effects that set the mood wonderfully. He was fascinated by the arcane and wanted to learn all he could.While he was the first in his family to go to school, his arcane studies are mostly self-taught. When he applied for the Proctors, one of the youngest to attempt the exam, he was accepted on his first try. He idolizes the Proctors and wants to prove that he has the capacity for greatness among their ranks.

Maeryll lived a life of swashbuckling adventure: treasure hunts, battling monsters, and rescuing damsels. Eventually, she found the life a little hard on her and decided retire, giving up the adventuring lifestyle for the last few decades in order to raise a family. Now that her children have gone off and had children of their own, and her husband has passed, Maeryll has turned to a late in life career and is putting her skills to good use as a protector of the public.
