The Seasons of Valthor
The changing seasons in Valthor reflect not only the rhythms of nature but also the influence of its divine patrons. Each season is tied to the cycles of life, death, and renewal, with a poetic connection to the realms of dragons and gods.
1. Vernathar (Spring)
Vernathar is the season of rebirth and awakening. The land stirs to life, warmed by the touch of Hestina, Goddess of the Sun, who breathes vitality into the world. Budding flowers, the return of migratory creatures, and gentle rains define this time of renewal. It is a season of hope, fertility, and new beginnings, celebrated through planting festivals and rites of growth.
2. Solithar (Summer)
Solithar is the season of abundance and prosperity, when Hestina’s power is at its zenith. The sun blazes high, nourishing the crops and ripening the fruit of the earth. Vibrant celebrations of light, warmth, and family take place during this season, marked by feasts and communal gatherings. The bonds between dragons and their riders are often reaffirmed during this time of fiery energy and bold action.
3. Pyraenyre (Autumn)
Pyraenyre is the season of reflection and harvest, where the world begins to rest from its labours. The hues of crimson and gold dominate the landscape, echoing Than’s influence as the earth prepares for slumber. It is a time of thanksgiving and remembrance, where families come together to honour their ancestors and reflect on the cycles of life and death. Dragons of the Fire Realm are said to draw closer to the mortal world during Pyraenyre, their presence heating the final embers of the year.
4. Thanyre (Winter)
Thanyre is the season of stillness and transformation, ruled by Than herself. The land is cloaked in frost and quiet, as the world enters its period of rest and contemplation. Snowfall and long nights are seen as blessings from Than, symbolising the cleansing and renewal of the Veil. During this season, the dead are honoured, and rituals of introspection are performed. It is a time for reflection, storytelling, and preparation for the return of light in Vernathar.
