Elder Dragons

Elder Dragons represent the pinnacle of draconic evolution, embodying immense power, wisdom, and adaptability. These beings are ancient, with lifespans stretching for millennia, their presence shaping the history, magic, and landscapes of Valthor. Each Elder Dragon serves a distinct role, categorised as War Dragons, Nesting Dragons, or Scholarly Dragons.

Transformation Abilities: Mastery of Form

Elder Dragons possess a rare ability to assume a second form, a gift powered by their mastery over Life Fire. These transformations are not simply physical but involve a complete magical restructuring of their bodies, allowing them to adapt to various environments or interact with other species.
Forms:
  • Humanoid Shape: Many Elder Dragons can transform into human-like forms to blend into society. For instance a great golden dragon, assumes the appearance of a golden-haired man, indistinguishable from any other human.
  • Smaller Dragon Form: Some Elder Dragons choose a drastically smaller dragon form for stealth or convenience. Ambros, for example, reduces his size to that of a Parvian Dragon, resembling a creature no larger than an eagle.
  • Animal Form: Elder Dragons may also adopt the shape of another animal to integrate into natural environments or observe undetected. Syntra, a wise and cunning Elder Dragon, is known to transform into a horse.

Physical Adaptations:
  • Internal Magic Restructuring: When transforming, Elder Dragons magically reconfigure their internal organs and skeletal structure to match their alternate form.
  • Appearance Retention: Certain features, such as eye colour or subtle mannerisms, carry over to their transformed state, serving as identifiers of their true nature.

Limitations:
Energy Consumption: Transforming requires significant amounts of Life Fire. While Elder Dragons can remain in their alternate form indefinitely, repeated transformations in a short period can drain their reserves and leave them vulnerable.   This ability to shift forms showcases their unparalleled mastery of Life Fire, a force that sets them apart from all other dragon breeds.
