Zirconium
Zirconium is a resilient metallic element valued by smiths, artificers, and alchemists for its exceptional resistance to heat, corrosion, and magical degradation. It is most commonly obtained from the mineral zircon, a dense crystalline stone often found in ancient river sediments, volcanic regions, and weathered mountain deposits. When refined and alloyed, zirconium produces metals that can endure extreme temperatures without warping or weakening, making it highly desirable in the construction of enchanted forges, arcane reactors, and containment vessels for volatile substances. Artificers frequently incorporate zirconium into devices that must withstand intense magical strain, as the metal resists many forms of elemental damage and magical decay. In addition, finely cut zircon crystals are sometimes used as durable substitutes for gemstones in enchanted lenses, focusing arrays, and divination instruments.
