Thulium
Thulium is a rare and little understood metallic element most often discovered within unusual mineral deposits that also contain other scarce metals. It appears as a soft, silvery metal when refined, but its true value lies in its distinctive interaction with magical light. When infused into certain crystals, glass, or enchanted materials, thulium compounds can produce steady bands of focused luminous energy. Because of this property, artificers and arcane engineers sometimes use thulium in devices that require precise beams of magical light, such as cutting instruments, surveying tools, or delicate laboratory apparatus. Some mage guilds also employ thulium infused lenses in advanced healing techniques that use concentrated radiant energy to cauterize wounds or treat certain magical ailments. Deposits of thulium are extremely uncommon, and the process required to isolate it from surrounding minerals is difficult and expensive. As a result, thulium is regarded as a specialist’s element, prized primarily by scholars and artificers whose work depends on carefully controlled magical light.
