Samarium
Samarium is a silvery metallic element commonly found within rare earth mineral deposits that contain several unusual metals mixed together. It is moderately hard and slowly tarnishes when exposed to air, forming a dull surface layer over time. Samarium is typically extracted from complex ores formed deep within ancient geological formations, where rare elements gradually concentrated over long periods. Although not especially strong as a structural metal, samarium possesses several unusual magnetic and energetic properties that make it valuable in specialized applications.
In arcane traditions samarium is often prized for its interaction with magnetic forces and controlled flows of energy. Artificers sometimes incorporate samarium alloys into powerful magnets used in arcane machinery, levitating mechanisms, or magical instruments that rely on precise movement and stabilization. Some scholars also experiment with samarium infused components in enchanted devices designed to regulate magical currents or maintain stable energy fields. Though rarely encountered outside advanced workshops and laboratories, samarium has earned a reputation among artificers as a useful element for controlling and directing subtle forces within complex magical systems.
