Promethium
Promethium is a rare and highly unstable metallic element that does not occur naturally in large quantities within the world. Instead it appears only in tiny traces within certain radioactive ores or is created through advanced alchemical experimentation. When isolated it appears as a pale metallic substance, but its atoms gradually decay over time, releasing faint energy as they transform into other elements. Because of this constant instability, promethium cannot be stored indefinitely and must be handled with great care by skilled scholars and artificers.
In arcane traditions promethium is often associated with transformation, energy, and the harnessing of unstable forces. Its slow release of power has led some artificers to experiment with it as a potential source of sustained energy in specialized magical instruments, enchanted beacons, or experimental arcane engines. However, the element’s unpredictable nature and harmful emissions make it dangerous to handle without protective measures. As a result promethium is studied primarily in advanced laboratories where scholars seek to understand the deeper principles of unstable matter and the hidden energies that shape the material world.
