Polonium
Polonium is a rare and highly unstable metallic element found only in trace amounts within certain radioactive mineral deposits deep beneath the earth. When refined it appears as a silvery gray metal, though it rapidly releases energy as its atoms break down over time. This continuous decay produces intense radiation and heat despite the element’s small quantity. Because of these properties, polonium is extremely dangerous to handle and is rarely encountered outside specialized laboratories where scholars study unstable matter and the hidden forces within certain minerals.
In arcane traditions polonium is often associated with hidden danger, decay, and powerful unseen energies. Alchemists who study unstable substances sometimes experiment with minute quantities of the element to observe the energy released during its transformation into other materials. Some theorists believe this slow but potent release of power could be harnessed in rare arcane devices or used to study the boundaries between magical and natural forces. However, its extreme toxicity and instability make it one of the most hazardous substances known to scholars, and its study is usually restricted to highly controlled environments overseen by experienced researchers.
