Plutonium
Plutonium is a dense, silvery gray metallic element known for its extreme instability and the immense energy locked within its atomic structure. It occurs only in tiny natural traces within certain radioactive ores but is most often produced through advanced alchemical or arcane experimentation involving other unstable elements. When refined, plutonium slowly releases energy as its atoms decay, generating both heat and powerful radiation. Because of these properties, it is considered one of the most dangerous substances known to scholars of matter and must be handled only with specialized containment and shielding.
In arcane traditions plutonium is often associated with destructive power, transformation, and the dangerous pursuit of forbidden knowledge. Its tremendous internal energy has led some artificers and arcane engineers to study it as a potential source for powerful magical engines or experimental arcane reactors capable of sustaining immense magical output. However, the element’s volatility and harmful emissions make it extremely hazardous, and even small amounts can pose severe risks to those nearby. As a result, plutonium is rarely used in practical crafting and is typically confined to the most secure research halls where scholars carefully study the immense forces hidden within unstable matter.
