A microscope is a precision optical instrument that uses a series of finely crafted lenses to magnify objects too small to be examined with the naked eye. It is primarily used by physicians, natural philosophers, alchemists, scholars, and investigators to study minute organisms, plant tissues, minerals, fibers, and other tiny specimens.   Setting up or packing away a microscope requires 1 minute. While using it, a creature can closely examine suitably prepared specimens, revealing details invisible to normal sight. At the DM's discretion, a microscope may grant advantage on Intelligence (Investigation), Intelligence (Nature), Intelligence (Medicine), or Intelligence (Arcana) checks made to identify microscopic organisms, diagnose diseases or parasites, analyze residues or fibers, distinguish fine craftsmanship, or examine similarly minute details.   A microscope requires adequate illumination and a stable surface to function effectively. It cannot be used to observe distant objects, and it provides no benefit when examining specimens too large to fit beneath its objective lens or those obscured by magical effects.
