Lanthanum
Lanthanum is a soft, silvery white metallic element commonly found within complex mineral ores that contain several rare metals together. It tarnishes slowly when exposed to air and is relatively easy to shape or cut compared to many harder metals. Lanthanum is typically extracted from rare earth mineral deposits formed in ancient geological environments where unusual elements concentrated over long periods of time. Although not especially strong on its own, the metal has a number of unusual chemical and physical properties that make it valuable in specialized craftsmanship and advanced experimentation.
In arcane traditions lanthanum is often valued for its ability to enhance the brightness and clarity of certain crystalline materials. Artificers sometimes incorporate small quantities of lanthanum into enchanted glass, magical lenses, or crystal instruments designed to focus light and arcane energy with greater precision. Some laboratories also use lanthanum infused materials in magical viewing devices, divination tools, or arcane sensors that rely on clear transmission of light. Though rarely seen in everyday tools, lanthanum has gained a respected place among artificers and scholars who work with delicate magical optics and finely tuned arcane instruments.
