Base of Operations: Soleil, Louve
Common Knowledge: The College of Apothecaries traces its roots to the War of Mourning Saints. Originally a monastery of Kalina, the priests there took in casualties from both sides and more importantly were the only ones looking after the civilian casualties and wounded from the war. As such, the College has remained extremely popular with the lower classes. Today they are made up of medical experts from all walks of life dedicated to using their skills and knowledge to bring equal medical care and attention to anyone, regardless of their station in life. They do not charge any money for their services and work off donations provided by nobility, the Cathedral of Light, The Mass of the Oracles and the Temple. Many plagues have been stopped by timely intervention from the College, and the common people are well aware of this and as such treat the Hospitallers and the College with a great deal of respect.
Goals and Ideals: The College draws most of the world's talented medical minds. They pay well, and are well treated and respected by the wealthy and poor alike, but it is their dedication to bringing medical care to everyone that attracts most of their numbers. They also seek to learn new ways to bypass the use of magic in healing, and as a result their libraries are filled with extremely detailed works on herbalism and natural remedies as well as non-magical elixirs and potions. They have mastered the delicate and once dangerous art of surgery.
Leadership: At the head of the College is the Surgeon Master, elected every 5 years from a member wide election. The Surgeon Master decides on things such as pricing guidelines and staff assignments to research projects and expeditions for rare components and ingredients.
From there, the College is subdivided by regional and local hospitals. All of which send regular reports to the Surgeon Master in Louve.
Behind the Curtain Information: The College of Apothecaries takes its purpose very seriously and is one of the few organizations on Aerith that is completely dedicated to its founding ideals. In addition to its normal duties the guild always has doctors performing research into new diseases and poisons to find cures before and problems spread. The College frequently hires mercenaries or adventurers to find rare materials, or to police any members that may craft poisons, or refuse to treat the poor.
