Aether Line

Laying on the grass as a child you stared up, pondering. ’Why are you there?’ You mouth the words as the thought enters your mind drifting around as though your young mind is at the verge of solving what Archmages have questioned since the gods gave the mortal races the ability to reason. In the dusk light the arc of light seems so clear to you that you imagine climbing one of the trees around you and touching it... The bright blue against the orange sky calling to you, it’s green streaks intermittently shining through, your favorite part of this mysterious ring. You have heard it reaches around all of Tiër, you’re not sure about that. You don’t know anyone who has left your town, how would the adults know about the whole world? The dusk sun approaches the Line of Aether and you get excited, quickly checking the tinker’s clock that Giter the gnome gave you years ago. Five minutes. You stand up and wait, counting down the last few seconds. Then it happens, the dusk sun touches the Grand Ley and the world is bathed in a violet light, as if a blessing from the Sovereign themselves. For 7 minutes you enjoy the purple glow, the sky still alight with pink streaks in the orange sky until the glow fades back to the normal dusk, and you run home to your mother and dinner awaiting you.   -Sarine the Bard of Tereth “Tales of a Youth Past”

Purpose / Function

A planetary ring orbiting the world in a general X pattern with the Stream of Vitalus, this stream is a condensed flow of mana encircling Tiër. it is a much more pure form of mana than that leeched from leylines below the surface of Tiër rendering it visible with the naked eye. Though it has never been reached it is thought to be 3 leagues in diameter (9 miles) and roughly circular, with the inner edge seeming to bulge out towards the leylines and mana of Tiër similar to the pull of the moon on water.   Every so often a Materium Crystal will fall with symbols on it, meant to be a blessing or temporary boon from some unknown source, thought to be the gods, of the individuals’ patheon of worship. Architecture

9 miles across, inner edge bulges in towards leylines like the moon and the oceans. Coloration: primarily a light blue with streaks of green and purple, much more clear at night, it can almost blend into the sky during the day. When the sun passes behind it it shines thought in a green, blue, and purple light, making the world below a green color in the morning for 7 min and a more purple hue for 7 min around dusk.

History

If Elven tradition is to be believed it was made by Corellon Larethian, the Elven God of Art and Magic, using its beautiful cool spectrum of colors and occasional Materium Crystals which fall to Tiër to be a blessing from him. Most other realms believe the Sovereign Host to be the architects of this ring of Mana; pointing to the occasional Draconic symbols on the Materium Crystals to say it is the handiwork of Bahamut to bless the just. There is contention on this point that Elves see these symbols in Elvish and when passed between faith holders they report the same words on the crystals, even when the phrases normally would be able to translate correctly. The kingdom of Shareth argue the creator to be Isis, their goddess of magic and fertility.
