Moonfang Sentinels

Ervenian Era, 1051 AB
The Moonfang Sentinels are an elite warrior-guardians from the noble houses and bloodlines of Amon-Thal - They are named for the legendary great lynxes that prowl the lands of Silverpine ranges.   They are elite guardians and protectors of the most important of nobles and the Prince of Amon-Thal and Aran Iaur of Amon-Thal.   Though their primary role is that of protectors, most notably for the ruling houses of Amon-Thal, the Moonfang Sentinels are also deployed in times of great peril. When an archmage marches to war, or when a diplomant travels to negotiate peace, it is said that the Sentinels prowl the edges of the camp or hall, unseen but ever watchful.   In battle, they form a silent shieldwall, using crescent-bladed polearms and moonsteel longswords. Their style is reactive and elusive - parrying, disarming, and redirecting—rarely striking first, but always striking true. Their calm demeanor under pressure is legendary: even in the face of dragons, liches, or nightmarish horrors, the Sentinels do not waver.   They are also experts in arcane wardcraft, capable of creating protective fields, repelling intrusions, and detecting curses or magical subterfuge.

Composition

Structure

The order is composed of a narrow brotherhood and sisterhood, fewer than two dozen at any time at every province, selected not merely for martial prowess, but for clarity of spirit, resilience of will, and unwavering loyalty. Potential recruits are identified in childhood and trained at the Sanctuary of the Glimmerfang, an ancient temple-fortress built into the cliffs.   Their training is rigorous and lifelong: it combines courtly diplomacy, arcane defense, sometimes shadow-walking, and traditional elven martial disciplines. Each Sentinel bonds with a spirit-mark, a magical sigil gifted through ancestral rite, allowing them to perceive arcane threats and protect their wards from mind-altering effects.   The High Fangwarden, first among the Sentinels, speaks for the order in the royal court. However, all Sentinels are equal in duty: each one a blade, a shadow, and a bulwark of the realm.

History

According to Historians, it was the moonfangs who stood guard at the sieges during the Long Night, when Amon-Thal’s nobility fled from the sundering of the old courts. As the legends tell it, these immense warriors, lynxes like and their noble companions, their eyes like silver mirrors, stalked silently beside the last Aran Iaur of Amon-Thal, never flinching even as horrors from beyond the abyss clawed at the gates. From that mythic vigil was born the order of the Moonfang Sentinels, who are sworn to guard the royal lineage.   Every Sentinel bears a cloak made from Great Lynxes-pelt (or a likeness thereof), enchanted to shimmer with soft silver-blue hues under starlight. Their helms often feature stylized lynx ears or eye motifs, signifying their watchful oath and symbolism to unseen threats.
Each one a blade, a shadow, and a bulwark of the realm.
