Higrola'ak

Higrola'ak is a group of diseases affecting Dragonborn which cause the detirioration and eventual failure of the respiratory system. Higrola'ak is the leading cause of death among dragonborn, amounting to as much as 70% of deaths in certain communities.

Causes

Much like true dragons, a dragonborn's breath weapon becomes more potent with age; however, much like every other mundane creature, when a dragonborn grow older their biological functions detiriorate. This leads to their breath weapon drawing more resources from the adjacent respiratory system, leading to a myriad of complications.

Prognosis

Higrola'ak is invariably fatal, and most dragonborn who die from old age in fact die from the disease. Depending on the type of higrola'ak and mechanism of detirioration, the patient may have anywhere from one year to over a decade left to live from its onset.
