Diplomatic Privilege
Ervenian Era, 1051 AB
Diplomatic Privilege is a concept in geopolitics by which certain foreign officials are granted privileges by their hosting polity. Common privileges include immunity from legal persecution, border-crossing during conflict, and reimbursement of expenses.
Observance
In Epeoris, most polities grant diplomatic privileges to emissaries and ambassadors, even during times of conflict. During the Yokun Grausur Campaign, a Yokun ambassador was allowed to enter Sabersycha immediately after the Siege of Clochdor Castle, in order to retrive the corpse of Mojigin Khanboroldi; his request was declined, but he entered Clochdor Castle, negotiated with Dara Colcamin, and returned back to the Yokunhein’s territory unharmed.
Notable exceptions to this norm include the Kingdom of Agy, which prohibits the establishment of embassies and limits the movement of foreign diplomats; and the Federation of New-Mourmodan, which allows delegates only on an invitation basis.
In Rakion, most diplomats are looked upon warily between opposing factions. Such factions, often meet at a neutral place or use the services of Peace Intermediaries to reach agreements and do not trust individuals much and often hold out, until such organizations would guarantee the truth.
However, when conflicts do not occur, diplomats are often entitled to priviliges by the hosting party, such as immunity from legal persecution, border-crossing during conflict, and reimbursement of expenses.
As from 1,051 AB, as the Kadian Invasion of Rakion continued, the main polity that usually help mediate is none other the The Bafigron Empire, who took the role of Octoland.
