Deprive Sleep
Ervenian Era, 1051 AB
Deprive Sleep is a variant of the Alarm spell developed by Vamos Teinteach which repeatedly creates a mental alarm for affected creatures.
Effect
Creatures affected by this spell have difficulty sleeping. Each time they attempt to go to sleep, they must make an initial Will save. Once asleep, they must make a Will save every hour per caster level (up to a maximum of 8 hours), or wake up. A creature that fails any of these saves remains awake for half an hour, after which they may attempt to sleep again. Creatures that are immune to mind-affecting spells, don’t need to sleep, or have 16 or more HD, are immune to this spell.
Deprive Sleep automatically counters or dispels any sleep spell of equal or lower level, and can dispell sleep spells of up to 4th level if the caster makes a caster level check against the sleep spell's DC.
Discovery
While the Imagine Dragonborns group were preparing their vigil against Sgiathbiastag Sheasmhach, Lomer cast the Alarm spell to awaken the rest of party should the the druid leave his cavern. Inspiration blasted Vamos; he began to wonder if the spell could be inverted to cause people to stay awake. After Sgiathbiastag's defeat, the sorcerer excitedly began experimenting (causing several headaches and lost sleep in the process), until he finally successfully created a spell that could prevent others from sleeping.
