Dark Lightning
Ervenian Era, 1051 AB
Dark Lightning, sometimes called Soul Nulling, is a necromancy spell that can extract a soul from a living being. A bolt of black lightning arcs from the caster's finger towards the designated creature, repeatedly striking them in an instant; if hit, the creature's soul is extracted from their body, slaying them instantly.
Effect
1 attempt/2 levels, may choose an additional target every 4 levels. May choose new targets after the spell resolves on prior targets.
If the spell hits, the target must also make a Will save. If this second save fails, the creature is immediately slain. The soul of a creature that passes the Will save is expelled from their body for 1d4 days; the soul hovers around the body for the duration and cannot wander more than 1 mile from it. The soul may choose not to return to the body, either being fitted with a new body or becoming a ghost; as long as 20% of the body is intact the soul can reinhabit the body.
Side/Secondary Effects
The spell can also be used in order to force a possessing entity out of a victim, though it is rarely used this way. It was notably used by lord Dara Colcamin in order to remove an entity possessing one of the Heroes of Clochdor.
Source
The spell is written inside the Biblio Athanaton, and supposedly only usable by its holder. It is currently unknown if the book is required as a spell focus or if it is merely the sole spellbook known to hold it.
