Beamriders of Amon-Thal
Ervenian Era, 1051 AB
Glory in Motion, Light on the WindThe Beamriders of Amon-Thal are the gleaming spearpoint of Armaithil's martial excellence, which is an elite cavalry order whose renown stretches from the shimmering vales of Amon-Thal to the deepest bastions of their reaches. Upon death, the beamriders are struck by a beam and vanish as the legendary warriors they are.
Composition
Equipment
Numerous times, it is told that when a Beamrider falls or its horse die, it can be seen again... not metaphorically, but again on the battlefield. Intelligence claim that there is some effect that 'retrieve' the dead body of the fallen and is risen again or moments before dying, the beamriders and its steeds, are teleported to safety.
Structure
The Beamriders are divided into riding phalanxes called Glints, each composed of twelve warriors and led by a Star-Thane. Several Glints form a Rayhost, commanded by a Raymarshal. The supreme commander of all Beamriders holds the title of Aurarch the Beacon.
Tactics
Beamriders are known not only for their legendary horsemanship, but also for their mastery of coordinated warfare (some claim that telapathy is used). Their steeds, proud beasts known as Armaithil coursers, are bred for both speed and grace, able to navigate treacherous woodland trails and the wide open star-meadows alike.
On the field, the Beamriders excel at lightning assaults, precise flanking maneuvers, and moon-dagger charges, where lines of riders descend with blinding speed under magical veils of refracted light. In siege scenarios, they function as rapid-response scouts, saboteurs, and messengers.
They carry starlance glaives, bound with luminous enchantments, and bear shimmercloaks woven by the Moonweavers, which blur their outlines at high speed. Some elite riders are also trained in magic, weaving spells while galloping at full tilt.
History
The order traces its lineage to the earliest days of Amon-Thal, when the elven peoples first took to the high saddles of their plains. The early riders, known as the Silver Horizons, patrolled the eastern ridges, guarding the pilgrim roads.
Where light treads, we ride; where darkness gathers, we gleam.
