Bugbear

Bugbears as they appear in the monster manual.  Extinct due to their own pride and arrogance.  No remnant of them remains in the Wode at all.   The bugbears usually existed in a social gap between the goblins and orcs. Often found as part in both groups, but never truly at home in either. When the taming happened, the orcs and bugbears connection was permanently severed. Goblins often looked up to them but whenever a goblin population grew to a large enough number they ostrisize the slower reproducing bugbears. Only when the ward Slayer grew to prominence did they have the strength to stand alone as their own nation. Now extinct, their culture (what little they had) was wiped from the Wode.

History

In the year 1972 AS, a great leader known as the Wardslayer had risen among the bugbear. He united all the clans into one nation. He lead a charge against all nations that would not bow to the bugbear might. The strength of his forces first crashed against the dwarven walls at the platinum mines, and there it broke. After several days of fighting a losing battle, the Wardslayer tried to rally his forces for another push against the dwarven fortress, but was slain by a ballista bolt. The rest of his forces fled into the mountains but the dwarven forces pursued until all the bugbears had been eradicated. This not only ended the war in one long battle, it also exterminated the species.
