Tears of Want

the River of all Torments Adrian

Notes on Adrian, the River of All Torments:   I spoke with Nara-O, Gatekeeper of the Forbidding Manse, Lord of Secrets Untold, this day, and he admitted me to the Forbidden Manse's deepest libraries, into that dark repository, I disappeared for days, studying the most secret texts. These are from my notes upon this occasion:   As a Primordial, a Potentate of Zen Mu, one of the creational Yozis, Adrian was responsible for the destruction required to let creation find space to occur on an ongoing basis. Carving out older creation to make room for new, Adrian was everywhere in Zen-Mu, until its disappearance from Zen-Mu, upon its 'death'.

Notes on The Lover Clad in the Raiment of Tears:   The Lapis Ewer would very much not like us to know, but it's clearly marked in our records that this ghost is the ghost of a Serenity. One of the premier sorcerer-martial-artists of the forces of light, she had slain a pair of previously Solar-exalted Akuma. Mastering Laughing Wounds Style and Dreaming Pearl Courtesan Style, this Chosen was thought to be a most fluid and efficient combatant, chosen to be   Falling upon the field of Adrian's Torment, in Zen Mu, in the Primordial War, she was slain by Adrian's own death-throes. Crushed to a paste, her body was never recovered, her upper soul fled but was caught on its way to Lethé, the Neverborn previously known as Adrian, newly coalesced, cristallized its ectoplasm around her. Holding her hostage to its own healing and its own resurrection, ages uncountable happened, and it protected its charge against the Three Spheres Cataclysms, among other threats.   After countless aeons, for time holds no limits upon the dreams of the Neverborn, and The Mouth of Oblivion and the Labyrinth are beyond the bounds of fate, beyond the limits of reality, she was reformed. She soon killed five more Solars, this time indiscriminately killing Akuma and her previous co-belligerants in the fight with the primordials, and kept their bones.   Forming their bones into an offering to the River of All Torments, she walked away, paying "the debt of existence" to the powerful Primordial Ghost. Traveling the width and breath of the Underworld, she interviewed all of the Neverborn, and decided upon Hunanura, the Heart-Frost Unending, for his dispassionate, reasoned approach to the Chivalry of Death, and to the extinction of reality, most agreeable. In exchange for the sacrifice, the nascent Primordial clad her in crystalled memories of the armor she wore at its own 'death', even if that term can only be improperly be applied to one of the foundational beings of reality.   Her death-knights act subtly against Tears of Want's expressed will, and to promote Hunanura's causes.   Tears of Want, for lack of a better term, lies insensate in the Maw of Oblivion, a river of angry madness, a torrent-stream of emotions, none dare enter his sanctum within the maw, for fear of being overwhelmed by his madness. Not unlike a river itself, it comes at an observer in tranquil, intense waves, overwhelming through sheer mass and over time.   Tears of Want's influence over the other Deathlords varies, but it always starts with a desire. Which is why The Lover's rejection is the one of the hardest to understand, for the sages, but becomes clear when her orderly, dogmatic approach to death utterly rejects desire as a foundation. Comparatively, The Bishop of the Chalcedony Thurible, The Silver Prince and The bursting of dreams draw much of their power-fealty from its influence.
