River Styx

The Underworld should not be. Before the first ancient was slain in the Divine Usurpation, there were only the cleansing waters of the River Lethe and the formless Sea of Shadows, both sovereign antidotes to Elemental Darkwine, the essence of Nostalgia.   The first of the Primordials who fell to became the Neverborn birthed the Underworld in their agonies, shattering the mechanisms that had until then ensured that souls passed from one life to the next in a gentle and uninterrupted cycle. The most massive geographical feature in the Underworld, the river Styx starts in the sky of the underworld, the slow drops of water dripping from the gash opened in the underworld's sky when the Constellation of the Mask ripped through the sky of the underworld for five consecutive days. It starts there, then none know exactly how, flows into the oceans that surround every part of the underworld, and divides the 16 districts of stygia from one another. Drips around, stretches around Kesundang the sword mountain, Dari of the mists, Sky Pavilion and many others.   To be dead is to be beyond life, and feel the call of Lethe. For the unprepared, to touch upon pure Styx water is to feel the kiss of Lethe, and forget, setting foot upon the path to be reborn. For the prepared, to call upon Styx can lead to Creation, Malfeas, Autochtonia and even Yu-Shan, provided one is not deterred by the Great Elemental Barriers, in the former case, by the Five Day wait to cross Cecelyne, in the second, by the Seal of Eight Divinities, in the third, nor having to climb upon the Constellation of the mask, respectively.   If one could climb to the constellation now none may see, one could in theory sneak upon where the Incarna suffer none to tread. But that was forbidden, and is now impossible, save your energy.   If you would dare the dry, angry thirsts of Cecelyne's unending sands and ceaseless paperwork, do keep in mind the Styx will connect you to Adorjan's accursed waters, for the entire five days. None have ever survived such an ordeal.   Autochton's seal of eight divinities is self-imposed, he suffers none to visit his blessed realm, so it is unknown where one would land, following the Styx to this place, perhaps one of the great oceans of Oil? It is quite dangerous, and the ingredients one must summon to qualify as 'prepared' would allow a craftsperson of equivalent skill to create a flying boat... Save your strength.   But in Creation, ah, creation, that is do able. The elementals guarding the great gates are lax, and sometimes bribeable. In Creation, the prepared simply mate the flow of the great Styx with another mighty river, and ride a ship to their destination. I have seen this done, and it is quite efficacious, bringing one much like the strongest ghosts' travel-without-distance to one's destination.
