Red fluff-cake

The operative otherwise known as The pastry chef was maintaing their cover by icing a cake. Eight thousand years practice meant they were also doing three other things at the time, out of sight of any observers. This was a very sweet icing, and so very sticky, but then, so was this particular cake's dough, when baked.   A recipe from the southern coast of creation's inner sea, and not unknown in the Dreaming Sea north to north-west of Y'danna, the dough was made of large pounded grain.   But to make it properly fluffy, pastry chef had roasted the grains lightly in sunflower oil, until each grain had 'popped' to ten times its dry size. Covered in sticky honey for a brief time in the oven, the resulting concoction was smooth, pliable and utterly delicious. Most adults in creation would pretend they didn't like it, calling it 'too sweet', or 'too fluffy', but pastry chef knew the real reason: for many, it was a touchpoint of their childhoods, a reminder of gentler times. Even the gods would use Ambrosia, sometimes, to simulate the tasty dish.
