Cloth-of-Imperex
Cloth-of-Imperex is the Mercantile Goddess of the Southeastern direction.
Changes appearance depending on which culture or polity is doing the most trading in a given period, see below:
At Jade-Tongue, The Dyed Queen's invitation, the circle had been presented to Cloth-of-Imperex, in her own room, at the Rani-Satrap's palace, where she was. of course, an honoured guest.
"I look like a certain dragon-blooded right now? The Empress of a certain Realm? Well, that must mean they're trading with my dominion in some way, then. Perhaps through you, steadfast Stelsor! You laugh? But it's true, through these intermediaries, you're enriching the house of V'neef, and therefore the realm." As she said that, she turned pale like a funeral shroud, her features wan, her hair the white of deepest snow.
"You're turning white, and look quite unwell..."
"Oh, her? A thousand poxes on that interloper, never even deigning to visit, always through intermediaries, cat's paws and go-betweens." She seethed.
"Who?"
"The Lover Clad in the Raiment of Tears, of course, meddling all the way from Gradefes, in the far North-East!"
"How is she trading with us then?"
"Why, through her agents, which are many, Deathrose Pot-pourri, first of all, but no less so for Rapatriator of Souls, The Mordant of Waning Shades, the Platinum Lady, Miribadi Ghostlover. Or simply by your treaty with them... Do you know what she stood to gain, by gathering these hostages here? Why she claimed a bond over Tiaden Starwhisper, and the others?"
Dreamflower, Fortifier, Kade and Rohen all thought hard upon that, but said nothing. Stelsor tried to open his mouth, but she didn't give him the time. You think I change shape only for trivial amounts? No, she has gained a town's worth, or a city, over her adversaries, while you were speaking. She is very, very good at what she does. And what she does it not very nice, nor honest, to be quite blunt, but she does as she does, and the wise are wary, for she is dangerous..."
