Lunar pools

The lunar pools are actually a series of pools connected by smaller rivers and streams before comeing together and making the Moon River. They are nestled right at the top of the Fire Planes and the bottom of the Shaye Forest.

When they was first discovered in 213, many people thought there were writings etched on the moons surface that could be read when gazing into the smooth, circular pools. This myth is what gave them their name, even if it didn't turn out to be true.

20 to 30 pools sit nestled amoung the crags and rocks, each leading into the others with small streams and waterfalls that glitter in the intense light. Each pool is a different size and depth, but thier water is all a rich, deep blue with teal edges and crystal clarity. Supposedly you can see over 100ft in these waters becasue they are so clear. The blue washes over the grey and red rock, smothing out all the rough corners and carving more and more pathways to travel.

In the center of this area is the largest and deepest pool. In fact, even with it uncanny clarity, you can't see the bottom, only the gradual fade into darkness as the rock falls away in the center. They say this is the deepest point on land, that this pool streaches all the way to the under world. Others saw it connects directly with the heart of The Underground, and still others declare it a path to the Abyss. But, alas, no one has the guts to dive down and see which one is right.

Fauna & Flora

As far as anyone knows, only one plant grows here. The Moon Lily. These lilies are the reason the Elves, Fire genasi, and Tieflings don't attempt to rip eachothers throats out at every possiblilty.

Ocasionaly some shore grass will sprout but it never lasts long, neither does the flimsy seaweed that comes in summer. People that live in the surrounding areas often come and harvest the seaweed so it doesn't interfear with a Moon Lily bloom durring the full moon, using it to make some cultural delicasies.

Despite it beautiful nature and many facinating assets, Not many people come. Many of the Tublians have tried to keep word of this place on the down low, not wanting to share its many wonders with anyone else. Those that do know of it are usuall deterred by the insane dangers around the pools, like the raging fires and close proximity to Calgery.

Where Does It Lead

There are many myths about this place, though only some are true. This pool does streach down and connect with The Underground though not at its heart, and it also goes deeper on a closed off path that does lead to the Abyss. However, no one has used that tunnel since their corrospondance with the Dwarves back in 385.

Creatures Of The Deep

Over the years there have been few drunken reports of creatures rising from the pools in the twilight on the night of a new moon. These reports are generally brushed off and forgotten. Every one knows there is nothing alive in these pools. Still, some quietly wonder what could possibly be at the bottom, and what could possibly come out.

What a fascinating place! I almost want to visit, but then you mentioned the fires and other dangers. So I think I'll just admire the place from a far. :D

Probably a wise decision to be honest, don't want to risk angering the Tublians. Thank you for giving it a read!

Sounds like a lovely and mysterious place! I really want to read about these moon lilies. They must be real special to stop people from killing each other...   I was wondering: where does the name lunar pools come from?

They are, and I should be writing about them soon. As for the name, I was going to add it and I guess I forgot. the name actually comes from the original discoverers who thought they could read the "secrets" on the face of the moon in its reflection. This wasn't true but the name stuck.
